Stephanie’s Story
For more than 30 years, I have helped people navigate complex legal matters, life-changing events, and some of life’s most difficult transitions. As a North Carolina State Bar Certified Paralegal, educator, and legal professional, I’ve built my career on organization, attention to detail, and helping others solve problems with confidence.
Elliott Legacy Planning wasn’t born from my legal career alone. It was born from real life.
Over the last ten years, I have experienced the sudden loss of my stepfather and grandmother. Before we could recover from those, my husband, Richard, had his cancer return and was diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia. I became his primary caregiver, and I handled all of his medical appointments and procedures, while working full time and also trying to care for our home. During that journey, I learned firsthand what families face when they are suddenly responsible for medical decisions, financial records, insurance policies, passwords, household accounts, legal documents, and countless details that no one ever expects to manage all at once.
After Richard’s passing, I found myself navigating many of those responsibilities personally—settling an estate, coordinating benefits, making financial decisions, organizing records, planning for my own future, and rebuilding life one step at a time. Even with three decades of legal experience, I saw how overwhelming these transitions can be.
Those experiences changed me. They reinforced something I had seen throughout my career: families rarely struggle because they don’t care or haven’t planned. More often, they struggle because important information is scattered, incomplete, or difficult to find when it’s needed most. The conversations are too hard to have, so it’s almost always left undone.
That is why I founded Elliott Legacy Planning. My mission is to help individuals and families organize life’s most important information before a crisis occurs—creating clarity, reducing stress, and giving loved ones one less burden during life’s most difficult moments.
Whether you’re planning for retirement, caring for aging parents, organizing your own affairs, or navigating a major life transition, my goal is simple: to help you create order, prepare with confidence, and protect what matters most.
Being organized isn’t just about paperwork. It’s putting your life and responsibilities in one place, and giving one of the greatest gifts you can leave the people you love.
